My Process for New Artwork

I am having a blast creating my new works of art. I am trying to figure out what to call the creations because I believe the process is so new! Some call it mixed media – using more than one art process – which in my case is photography and technology tools. As a base layer I use a high-quality photo I have taken of the subject. When I started my creative journey, I began as a photographer, then I moved into acrylic painting and then oils. I really love any creative medium, including markers and pastels.

For the past 5 years I have been trying my hand with oil painting, as I believe it to be forgiving and flexible. We went to Alaska this summer and I purchased some artwork and struck up a conversation with the artist on her process. She told me her work that I loved was created using Procreate. I had never considered trying technology in art.

Procreate is the complete art studio you can take anywhere. Create expressive sketches, rich paintings, and illustrations on an iPad. You can learn all about it here, and with these beginner tutorials here.

I have created many wonderful images since that day that I am happy with and have gotten a lot of positive feedback about them. Soon, I will be in a local magazine about the art and prints will be available at a local store, Posterity Gallery, as well as my on-line store with many products here.

I am not giving up other media such as oil, pastels, and markers. There is a place to blend them all. I believe my next step will be to work on experimenting with other more traditional media with these images. For me, the excitement is in the experimentation. We will see where it goes! I would love to hear what you think about the new images?
