My daughter came home this week and remarked how cozy our house is. I think that is my favorite compliment ever, especially from her. I always wanted to make a very cozy, comforting home. One where when you walked in the door, you felt you were entering a place where you were loved, welcomed and appreciated. The world can be harsh and challenging sometimes. We need a place to center ourselves, fill our cup, and get recharged.
I recently read, The Little Book of Hygge, by Meik Wiking. Almost every other page has the corner turned down and notes on it. Hygge is “appreciating the simple pleasures in life that can be achieved with very little money.”
Some ideas from the book that I love for making a home cozy include:
- A pet who likes to cuddle
- Lots of candles; I like Woodwick Candles
- A fireplace
- A good sound system and great playlists. I enjoy Diana Krall
- A sheepskin rug from Amazon
- Bringing elements of the outside in, like pine cones, plants or branches
- Board games
- Pottery
- Lots of pillows and soft throw blankets
- Hot drinks like tea, hot chocolate or an Irish coffee
If you get a chance check out the book for yourself
