To be a good leader, you have to have a mindset of abundance and love not scarcity and fear. I have seen it many times. A good leader shares credit, gives opportunities and celebrates accomplishments. A leader encourages new ideas, loyalty, passion, and hard work. Zig Ziglar summed up the abundance mindset with his statement: “You will get all you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want”. I will never forget my hospital president asking, “How can I help you be your best at your job? What do you need from me?” That was a powerful example to me.
When leading through fear and scarcity, a leader who is often insecure may be a micro manager, hoarding credit, criticizing subordinates and squashing the joy of contributing. What they don’t realize is that most people react to this type of leader by losing their passion, drive, and loyalty.
You can make a big difference if you build a network of people who trust you. It’s about “me helping other people”—not just about “me helping me”. Being a leader means living your vision and mission statement everyday with energy, and reminding your employees that they are not just performing tasks and duties, but ultimately working for some greater purpose as part of a team.
This song is a great reminder to me of the abundance in life I have to share. I never get tired of listening to it and I hope it inspires you too.

I’ve decided to be happy
I’ve decided to be glad
I’ve decided to be grateful
For all I ever had
I’ve decided to let go
Of all this pain tonight
I’ve decided to let go
Of all these demons inside
I know…I am blessed
I know…all I ever wanted was this
I know…I don’t need more
I’ve got… what I came for
I’ve decided to be open
For that little voice inside
Telling me I’m beautiful
It’s okay to be alive
I’ve decided to be kinder
To myself when I am sad
I’ve decided to be grateful
For all I ever had
