Lucky for me this 4th of July, I was able to be a co-director of a community sidewalk art contest for kids called, “Art in the Park”. Their ages ranged from 3 to 13 and they each got a large sidewalk square and wrote their name and age on the square. We provided the chalk. Then, we asked them to “Draw what makes you happy.” Some kids knew right away what they would draw, and others needed time to think about it.
It was so fun to ask this question and see their reactions. I believe it is never too early to start asking oneself this question. If you don’t know what makes you happy, then how will you know how to spend your limited time here? You only live once. Don’t we all need to spend some time thinking about this question?
The judging in this contest was an unexpected hardship. How could we possibly pick first, second and third places? Kids drew boats, fireworks, ice cream, games, pets and flowers. But most drew spending time with their friends and families.
Take a look at our HGLG page, The Science of Happiness, to learn more and take some time to think about five things that make you happy!
